Floating Station, Q-city International Young Designer Competition.
Competition Organizer: Handan Municipal People's Government
Description
Category: Competition Winning Project | Public Space
This innovative design for Longhu Park, Handan, would create floating islands to increase bio-diversity, increase green space, reduce urban heat and provide a cool space where people can picnic, play, fish or just spend time together. Inspired by the shape of traditional vessels, this floating ecology would extend the beauty and function of the Park onto the river. These modular structures, powered by electric motors, would be mini floating parks with picnic and playspaces that can connect to each other to form larger floating islands or act as a bridge across the rivers or canals. Their plantings would vary and include both aquatic and terrestrial species, supporting bird life and acting as giant seeders to increase biodiversity along the length of the waterways. Users would use a phone application to book and order delivery of their floating park to a station near them.
