Fengqi Wetland Master Plan.

Competition Organiser: Municipality of Chengdu

Description

Category: Competition Shortlist Entry | Master Plan

The design for this master plan was inspired by the name of the wetland, Feng or Pheonix, the king of the birds and a symbol of new beginnings.

Fundamental to the design for this 176ha site was the use of the existing topography to establish the Fenqi wetland, a series of five water filtration ponds that are the ecological foundation of the wetland park. The five tiers of ponds consist of the winter paddy field, the Huilong reservoir, the planting island, the macrophyte planting zone and the wetland bubbles pond. These collect, filter, clean and store stormwater for reuse on the site.

The broader site was divided into four zones including the wetland display zone, tourism experience zone, customer services and management zone and the ecological conservation zone. Accessibility and connectivity within the site with modified paths and roads connecting different zones and enabling travel throughout the site by vehicle or on foot. Along the road network, a range of activities are available, including bird watching, cycling, fishing, U-pick, camping in flower farms, playgrounds, fishing ponds, restaurants and farming activities.

Our design won an Excellence Award in the Fengqi Wetland Master Plan Competition 2020.
